These last images capture the essence of self destruction. The first photo demonstrates a common theme in todays youth (girls and boys included). Many kids feel the need to have the perfect body to be accepted and in order to do so people turn to eating disorders. The other image focuses on the same concept of finding perfection, however, it deals with the matter of covering up. Not meaning covering ones body in distracting clothing but masking ones own face. Many young teenage girls feel if they are to be considered "pretty" by their peers, they must conceal their true face and cover it with makeup. The fact that todays society has taught girls they must become a "perfect" image in order to not be judged by their peers, is a fact that I find quite disturbing. These photos cover the whole ugly truth of how media today has taught children to have a self destructive mindset, or just the mindset of not being good enough. I hope you enjoy.
These images are from a project done on childhood fears. Each photo is symbolic of a fear that so many people once faced, and that some still do today. One image captures the fear of being alone, or as a kid would fear, being left in the dark. Another photo resembles monsters under the bed, or for the grown adult the fear that something so close to you, close enough to be right beneath you, is waiting to hurt you. These fears may be thought of as childish yet they apply to everyday people. I hope you enjoy.
My Portfolio:
This first project was one I created on the topic of light. I used different techniques and styles to capture the images. As said in my artist statement this project is showcasing life after the light goes out. I wanted to demonstrate how life doesn't stop when the sun goes down. I hope you enjoy.
